Work with Degan

Utilizing her decades’ experience on the frontlines of community efforts and international programs, Degan helps organizations to reach the greatest possible impact for those they support through the following services. Services are available individually or as part of a custom package, tailored specifically to each organization’s needs.

What I do.

Organization Audits

We cannot reach our goals without first understanding where we are now. Degan Ali offers rigorous organizational audits to assess your organization’s performance through lenses of power, equality, decolonization and effectiveness.

Audits are customized for your specific needs and cover a range of topics, including resource allocation, supply chain practices and human resources practices such as hiring, training, capacity building, compensation and retention.

Using a range of techniques including policy audits, staff surveys and interviews, roundtable discussions and comparisons with others in the field, Degan can help you understand your baseline from which to soar.

Communication Assessments

How can we share the urgent need for international support while empowering those we advocate on behalf of? How can we decolonize our communications to ensure we do not uphold harmful perspectives about the Global South?

Degan offers assessments of your current communication practices before developing a new anti-racist communications strategy that ensures modern decolonization practices are in all elements of your organization. The result is a deeper quality of donor relations, further amplification of your work and the assurance that your organization’s stories are ethically received and told.

Strategy & Policy Development

Working closely with your team across the organization, Degan can support you in developing a long term strategic goal to ensure decolonization in your organization, whether through planning or policy writing. Areas for discussion include but are not limited to:

  • Organizational governance and board diversity
  • Business and funding models—and their priorities
  • Operations and local supply chain
  • Trust-based partnerships
  • Community-centered programming implementation
  • Communication policies and processes
  • Values-driven decision making
  • Executive Coaching

As the international aid sector makes bold, rapid changes towards equality, leaders must keep up with these changing tides. Degan has worked at senior levels of aid and organizational governance across the Global North and Global South. As a result, she is intimately familiar with the pressures you face while leading your organization to be the best it can be.

Degan offers candid, insightful perspectives that will help you deal with the urgency of today while planning a bold future. She offers direct executive coaching to those overseeing humanitarian programming, or directors of NGOs seeking to ensure they are at the frontline of the movement for change.

    DEGAN’S VALUES:

Decolonization is not easy work. There is discomfort on the way to meaningful change. Degan commits to being courageous in her work — and asks her colleagues to make that commitment, too.
To create change, we must put ourselves in others’ shoes. As a result, empathy is essential when communicating the stories of those we are serving.
Even as a recognized international expert, Degan continuously learns from others, and actively creates space for others to also lead.
Systemic change takes time and many people’s participation. Degan works with people where they’re at, and in their own time.
